Math

The students are working on the geometry unit.  They have learned about different kinds of triangles, polygons and 3D shapes.  Yesterday they predicted which structures would be stable or not and then tested out the predictions and make their own structures out of 3D shapes.

Science

The students are finishing up their simple machine designs.  Here are a few of their inventions.

March Mellow contest

The students had a great time working as a team to build the tallest structure out of spaghetti, tape, yarn and one marshmallow on top.  There were 103 teams.  Everyone did a great job and had a lot of fun!

Social Studies

The students are beginning a new project in social studies.  They will be planning a trip through Alberta to understand the importance of the culture, history, national parks, nature and the events and celebrations that make up our provinces identity.  Today they brainstormed Alberta destinations and why they would be interesting to visit.

This week!

The students are working on studying and analyzing songs, leading up to hopefully writing their own lyrics.  For their song unit the students have permission to bring devices with appropriate music to school.  They can also bring headphones and listen to music I have put on a CD as well.

On Thursday, the students can begin registering for the March Mellow contest.  The students will put together teams and then participate in a contest to build the tallest structure in a certain amount of time.  Materials will be provided.  Then the students can also vote for their favorite structure for fifty cents a a vote.
