Math: Learning about decimals

Learn Alberta has a great website with videos on most of the concepts covered in the curriculum: Math Live: Learn Alberta

The grade 4's have been learning about decimals in Math.  They have been using hundred grids to help them visual what a decimal number looks like.  They have also been using them as a tool to help problem solve.  Here are some photos of their most recent lesson:

Next week the focus is Pasta week (box of pasta, pasta sauce, canned tomatoes)

Items in high need are also diapers and baby food.

Winter Performance

The grade 4 students have adapted a song to perform along with a shadow play during the winter concert. Should your child wish to practice at home, here are the lyrics. The instrumental track is available on YouTube.

Imagine by John Lennon
Adapted by Elboya Grade 4s

Imagine there’s no fighting
It’s easy if you try
No crime, no weapons
Children, no need to cry
Imagine all the people living life in peace…

Imagine no pollution
It isn’t hard to do
Not a single piece of waste
And space for animals too.
Imagine all the people living life in peace…

You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will be as one.

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world…

You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will live as one
