Halloween Activities!

Students participated in lots of fun school events this week. Grade 4s participated in a pumpkin decorating contest, costume parade and some fun classroom activities. A big thank you goes out to all of our wonderful parent volunteers who helped to make these events so successful.

Kenyan Boys Choir

The Kenyan Boys Choir visited Elboya today to talk to the students about We Day and how to make a difference in the world. Ask your child about the show!

Art in Grade 4

Grade 4 students have been working to create some amazing pieces of art. The students collaborated to create a silhouette mural. Grade 4s used glue and newspaper to create the background and then drew and cut out bird silhouettes, wire silhouettes and a power poll silhouette. It is on display in the main hallway across from the gym. Check it out next time you're in the school!

Grade 4s students also worked on some fall art. They used pastels to create nighttime pumpkin patch scenes. They are also on display in the classrooms as well as on a board across from the gym. Have a look next time you visit! 

Ms.Bly - The grade four's in Room 9 have begun a project in Science to design a landfill.  They have thought of important questions around what needs to be considered when designing a landfill and have begun the inquiry research.  Next we will create a rubric on how they will be marked, decide on a deadline and start building their model.  The students will then have to present their work.

Stuff A Sock For a Sick Kid!

Ronald McDonald House Southern Alberta provides a home away from home for out-of-town families with sick children receiving medical attention in a Calgary hospital. Though the house has grown and changed since opening in 1985, the purpose remains the same - keeping families together in a compassionate and comfortable, home-like atmosphere.

Each homeroom will stuff a Halloween sock full of candy. This would only require each student to bring a couple of pieces of Halloween candy. Once your homeroom is finished collecting (October 28), please tie your sock closed with an elastic band and return them to us. We will deliver them to Ronald McDonald house on October 31, and then they will be distributed to sick children who are unable to go trick-or-treating themselves.

Donated candy:

-Must be individually wrapped

-Cannot contain any nuts or nut products

-Cannot be homemade

Grade 4s have been working to complete two budget projects. They are given a specific amount of money to spend and work through spending their money according to their budgets using adding and subtraction of decimals. Some of the projects are shown below.
