Winter art and poetry

The students created a winter art scene using tape to make birch trees and water color pencils for the background.  They also wrote poems to go along with the winter/holiday theme.

Upcoming events

Next week is the last week before holidays.  On Monday the students can purchase candy grams.  On Thursday, the students will be having a Christmas sweater spirit day.

We will also be celebrating the holidays in class.  Next week Ms.Bly's class will be watching "The City of Ember" movie as we finish up our novel study on this book.  It is rated PG.  Please let me know if this is a problem and I can make alternate arrangements.

Winter Concert

Our Winter Concert is Thursday, December 11th.  There are 3 concerts that the students will perform in.
            2:30-3:30
            5:30-6:15
            6:45-7:30
It is important that every student attend all performances as they each play a key role.

Students should have a snack (or meal) after school, and be dropped off at our classroom at 5:15.  They can bring their backpack with a water bottle and small snack that we will eat in between performances.   Students can be picked up at 7:30 from our classroom.  They students in the shadow play can wear all black if possible, however if not it won’t make a huge impact. The singers will be wearing black or dark clothing.

Entrance to each concert is by ticket only.  If you did not order tickets online or would like to pick up additional tickets, you can do so on Wednesday only before and after school.

Upcoming events

Tomorrow is a professional development day - no school for kids

Next week is canned fruit and vegetables week for the food back.  Thank you for all the donations already provided!

The winter concert is Thursday December 11.  There will be 3 shows: 2:30 - 3:30, 5:30 -6:15 and 6:45 - 7:30.  It is very important for the students to be present at all three shows since they have been working for many weeks on this production and everyone plays an important part.  Every family is able to book 4 tickets.  Please go to conference manager to book your tickets for the show.

Pinhole camera

Today the students made pinhole cameras from a shoebox.  However, instead of adding film or photo paper they created a translucent screen so they could view the image immediately.

Some students wanted to re-create this at home or experiment with their camera.  Click here to view an example of how to use the pinhole camera .  If the students do not have cardboard to make a light shield simply using their jacket or a blanket works well.

Certain students asked about making one with film.  It requires a dark room to load the film or photo paper and experience to know how to expose photos in a dark room.  Here is a link to make one with a can instead of a shoebox if anyone is ambitious enough:)  Pinhole camera with film

If they students took theirs home to experiment with it would be great if they could bring them back for a few more experiments at school.
