Science:

Yesterday the students had fun walking around the neighbourhood and taking pictures of interesting trees, plants, flower, shrubs and grasses.  Today we are going to use these pictures to try to identify what they saw.  

The students will use City of Calgary website to help them with this task.

This week:

In health today we visited a helpful website for all sorts of health issues affecting kids/teens and talked about stress and how to deal with it.  There is also a section for parents that is useful.  Kids Health

Reminder: Tomorrow we are going on a neighborhood walk to identify different plants and flowers that can grow in Alberta.  If the students want to bring their own devices to take pictures they are welcome to.

Next week:

A letter went home yesterday about a nature walk to look for Alberta flowers and plants which will take place on Tuesday at 1:00pm.  Feel free to join us if you would like.

All year the students have been working hard on Daily 5 where they have the opportunity to read to self, read to someone, work on words, work on writing or listen to reading.  The students really enjoy this time because it allows them to have some choice and freedom while still working on language.  

Some students have loved writing their own comics during this time.

Library

Tomorrow is our last library of the year.  There is a contest to be the first homeroom to bring back all their books as a class.  The winner will receive timbits!

This week:

Friday is Sports day!  Please bring a hat, water bottle, running shoes and wear sunscreen.  Lunch will be provided.

In Math the students worked with multiplication, measurement and decimals while getting some exercise.

Jump rope for heart update:

Jump Rope for Heart News – Mme. Lewis

Our fundraising totals have recently been finalized for our Jump Rope for Heart campaign at Elboya School! In total, with online and offline donations, 102 Elboya students, grade one to grade six, we able to raise a total of $12,337.83.

A special thank you is sent out to Ms. Bly’s grade four class, who raised the most money for a homeroom! Also, a special thank you goes out to our top three fundraisers in the school; Chanelle D (grade 4), Megan L (grade 2) and Paige S (grade 6). Prizes will be delivered to the school soon and then distributed to participating students.


I would like to once again thank everyone who was involved in our Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser this year! 

This week:

The math problem of the week was not finished in class for anyone today as it was challenging.  Everyone has started and has a strategy to work with and will complete it as homework to bring back by Monday.

A letter was sent home today from parent council.
