Pink Shirt Day!

Tomorrow is Pink Shirt Day! Please dress in pink or red in honour of Anti-Bullying/Kindness Month at Elboya.

Here is a snippet of the Globe & Mail article that inspired CKNW Orphans’ Fund Pink Shirt Day:
David Shepherd, Travis Price and their teenage friends organized a high-school protest to wear pink in sympathy with a Grade 9 boy who was being bullied [for wearing a pink shirt]…[They] took a stand against bullying when they protested against the harassment of a new Grade 9 student by distributing pink T-shirts to all the boys in their school. ‘I learned that two people can come up with an idea, run with it, and it can do wonders,’ says Mr. Price, 17, who organized the pink protest. ‘Finally, someone stood up for a weaker kid.’ So Mr. Shepherd and some other headed off to a discount store and bought 50 pink tank tops. They sent out message to schoolmates that night, and the next morning they hauled the shirts to school in a plastic bag. As they stood in the foyer handing out the shirts, the bullied boy walked in. His face spoke volumes. ‘It looked like a huge weight was lifted off his shoulders,’ Mr. Price recalled. The bullies were never heard from again.”

Health

Grade 4 began their Human Sexuality module. The notice that has been signed and returned is below. If you have asked that your child not participate in the classes, they are working on other work during these lessons in another classroom. Please let us know if you have any questions.

During the months of February and March, Grade 4 will take part in a one/two week Human Sexuality module. Students in Grades Four will be examining how individuals’ interests, abilities, emotions, and bodies change during the pre-adolescent and adolescent years. These students will look specifically at the physical, emotional and social changes that occur during puberty.

The following are the learning outcomes of the Human Sexuality component of the Alberta Health and Life Skills curriculum:
Grade 4
W-4.3 Describe physical, emotional and social changes that occur during puberty: e.g., menstruation, secondary sexual characteristics, changing identity and moods.
